Daniel Bilac, 1986, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil.
Lives and works in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil.
Daniel Bilac has a bachelor degree in Visual Arts with major in painting from Escola de Belas Artes – UFMG. His work combines techniques and materials from both drafting and painting. Each piece is made of paper layers that sometimes reveal and sometimes hide grafisms, incisions, brushstrokes and color areas. The figures, in general statics and centralized, are confronted with diagrams and notes, which, in spite of their purpose, cannot promptly elucidate what they investigate. Between the presentation of what is alive and the difficulty to comprehend what is alive inside a scheme, emerges a tension that is finally accentuated by the titles of the works, fragments impregnated by an equally vague narrativity, but that appear to promise each time to solve the enigma. Daniel has presented the following solo exhibitions: Monumento vidraça monumento ruína, Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, Belo Horizonte, 2014; Manual da espera, Galeria Nello Nuno (FAOP), 2013 and Sala Ivan Marquetti da Galeria de Arte do Grêmio Literário Tristão de Ataíde – Ouro Preto, 2013; Quando eu disser seu nome, Celma Albuquerque Galeria de arte, Belo Horizonte, 2011; Tudo o que tem dente morde, Galeria de arte da CEMIG, Belo Horizonte, 2010.
