Celma Albuquerque Galeria de Arte presents from March 16 the individual exhibition “Estranho Familiar”, by the Minas Gerais artist Efe Godoy.

Revealed by the Bolsa Pampulha project in 2015/2016, Efe Godoy develops effervescent research involving the languages of drawing, object and performance. Her best-known work is a performance in which the artist wears a capybara head and roams the city. Such man/animal hybridism is also present in most of her drawings and objects.

Attentive to the daily life around her, Efe Gogoy captures a series of elements that catch her attention and, like a spell of Chance – as she refers to these encounters herself – take place in her work. In this way, animal heads, tree trunks, plants, clothes, toys and various objects compose the works / dreams and these dreams are materialized by the artist’s sensitive pencil stroke.

Efe Godoy seems to gradually build an infinite private alphabet in which things, beings and words weave a kind of daily life parallel to ours. These new beings that appear, whether on the surface of the paper or in the profusion of performances, seem to have a life of their own and belong to another spatio-temporal dimension. It is precisely there that the work gains strength: through the recognition of something that is familiar to us, but which nevertheless seems strange to us. Isn’t that exactly how dreams work?

The exhibition aims to show the diversity of the artist’s production in which all the elements present are connected, forming a large dreamlike field in permanent construction.

A performance is planned for the exhibition in which the artist will spend long periods of time in the gallery’s exhibition space producing her works / dreams. In this way the visitor can have contact with the artist’s work in a broader way, which will further enhance her proposal.
